What is the minimum distance required to pray as Jamm and Qasr?
In Shafi Madhab, it is 132km. Whereas in Hanafi Madhab, it is 85km.(If you don’t know which is your Madhab, ask your Imam. And if you don’t found a way to contact or ask the Imam take 132km as minimum distance.)
Distance should be taken from starting point(eg,.home). The distance calulated as oneway distance, not the round trip.
What are the conditions to do Jamm and Qasr ?
- The Journey you taking should be halal. Meaning, the goal of your journey should be halal. You can’t do jamm and qasr if your journey doesn’t have a goal of final destination.
- The Journey should be more than the above mentioned minimum distance. If you have to travel from ‘A’ to ‘B’ and you have two routes. One is 132km and other is 100km. If you choose the route with 132km you can perform your prayers as jamm and qasr. But if you chose the route with 100km, then you can’t.
- Your journey should have a goal. You have to have a final destination. If you are wandering and not have a clear goal of your destination you can’t perform your prayers as Jamm and Qasr
