How to Convert to Islam and Become a Muslim

Islam is the peaceful and inclusive religion that welcomes people of all backgrounds and beliefs. Converting to Islam (also known as becoming a Muslim) is a simple and straightforward process that requires a sincere declaration of faith known as the Shahada.

What is the Shahada?

The Shahada is the declaration of faith in Islam, and it is the first of the Five Pillars of Islam. The declaration states, “There is no god except Allah. And Muhammad (peace be upon him) is the messenger of Allah.” By reciting this statement with sincerity and a hundred percent belief, one becomes a Muslim.

By reading it you won’t become Muslim, you needed to have pure belief of the Shahada. Islam is the religion which only goes by your heart or intentions. And not how you looks from outside and how were you before. Because Allah is the most merciful and forgiving.

The messenger of Allah, Muahmmed (pbuh) said, “Verily, Allah does not look at your appearance or wealth, but rather He looks at your hearts and actions.

‘peace be upon him’ is abbreviated as ‘pbuh’

After becoming Muslim all your previous wrong doings will be wiped away and you will be like a new born baby who doesn’t done anything. In Islam if you do any good thing, such as you donated to an orphan or you done the prayer five times a day, but if you done it for showing off, not for sake of Allah you, it won’t be considered as a good deed.

Everything you do even if it is just watering the plants, if your intention is like “I’m watering this plant for only sake of Allah because prophet told us watering plants is a good deed”, you will be rewarded in the hereafter.

Understanding about Islam

The best way to understand about Islam is to study the life of Prophet Muhammed (pbuh). Firstly, you have to understand that Quran is the words of Allah. And Hadees (also written as Hadith) is the words of our beloved prophet Muhammed (pbuh).

Steps to Convert to Islam

  1. Believe a hundred percent that there is no God except Allah, he has no partners and Muhammed (peace be upon him) is slave of Allah and final messenger of Allah. And everything except Allah are Allah’s creations and are slaves of Allah, and he is the one and only ultimate creator.
  2. Make the declaration of faith: The Shahada is the declaration of faith in Islam. It is important to recite it with sincerity and pure belief.
  3. Begin practicing the Five Pillars of Islam: The Five Pillars of Islam are the foundation of the Muslim faith. They include the declaration of faith, prayer, fasting, charity, and pilgrimage to Mecca.
  4. Believing the Six Pillars of faith that are—Belief in Allah, in Angels, in the Books (all the revelations including Quran), in Messengers, in last day (the day of qiyamah) and in divine decree !

How to Practice Islam

If you are not Muslim yet, then don’t get overwhelmed about these many practices because you have concession, and you just have to slowly incorporate one by one into your habit.

  1. Pray five times a day: Muslims are required to pray five times a day, each at specific time intervals, one after the other. These prayers, known as Salah, connect the believer with Allah and provide a sense of peace and tranquility.
  2. Fast during Ramadan: Muslims are required to fast during the month of Ramadan. This is a time of spiritual reflection and self-discipline. The time of fasting is from Fajr (dawn) till Maghrib (sunset)
  3. Give to charity: Muslims are required to give 2.5% of their wealth to eight different categories of people if you have wealth more than the specified wealth for one year. This is known as Zakat and is obligatory for Muslims who are eligible to give it to the people.
  4. Make the pilgrimage to Mecca: Muslims are required to make the pilgrimage to Mecca at least once in their lifetime. This is known as Hajj, and it becomes obligatory if you have wealth, health, and transportation facility.

The Sunnah in Islam (it is the words, actions and silent consents of the Prophet)

  1. Read Quran: Muslims are encouraged to read and study Quran regularly, as it is considered the holy book of Islam and the word of God, Allah.
  2. Perform good deeds: Muslims are encouraged to perform good deeds and be kind to others as it is considered an act of worship
  3. Be Honest: Muslims are needed to be honest in their dealings and not to cheat or deceive anyone.
  4. Practice self-control: Muslims are encouraged to practice self-control and discipline in all aspects of life, including thoughts, emotions, and behaviors.
  5. Be thankful: Muslims are required to be thankful and appreciate the blessings in their lives
  6. Seek knowledge: Muslims are encouraged to seek knowledge and understanding of their religion and the world around them. To become a better Muslim, you’ve to learn about Islam from the RIGHT SOURCE (which is “Ahlusunnathi wal Jama-ath”). Learning is a never-ending process. It is also a good deed, and you will be rewarded.
