Signs of the Last Day

Minor signs (many already appeared)

Scholars list numerous minor signs — increase in killing, spread of riba, barefoot Bedouins competing in tall buildings, loss of trust, prevalence of immorality, and knowledge lifted while ignorance spreads.

Hadith

The Hour will not be established until… a man passes by the grave of another and says, “Would that I were in his place,” … and until the barefoot and naked compete in constructing tall buildings. Sahih al-Bukhari 7121

Qur'an

They ask you about the Hour: “When will it be established?” Say: “Its knowledge is only with my Lord. None will reveal its time except Him. It lays heavily upon the heavens and the earth. It will not come upon you except unexpectedly.” Qur’an 7:187

Major signs (ten well-known)

Hudhayfah (RA) reported that the Prophet ﷺ listed ten major signs: the Dajjal; descent of ‘Isa (AS); emergence of Ya'juj and Ma'juj; three landslides (east, west, Arabian peninsula); smoke; the Beast (Dabbat al-Ard); the sun rising from the west; the fire that drives people to the place of gathering.

Hadith

The Prophet ﷺ said: “The major signs are: the Dajjal, ‘Isa ibn Maryam, Ya’juj and Ma’juj, three landslides — one in the east, one in the west, and one in the Arabian Peninsula — and the smoke, the Beast, the sun rising from the west, and the fire from Yemen that will gather — or drive — the people.” Sahih Muslim 2901

How to respond

Do not try to fix dates for the Hour. Live as though it is near: prayer, repentance, justice to family, and avoiding speculation and panic. When the sun rises from the west, repentance will no longer be accepted.

Hadith

Whoever repents before the sun rises from its place of setting, Allah will accept his repentance. Sahih Muslim 2703
