How to Pray While Traveling on a Train or Flight

1 min read

Traveling long distances by train or flight can be challenging, especially when it comes to performing your prayers on time. Sometimes, the journey may last more than a day, making it difficult to pray in the usual manner, even when combining prayers (known as Jamm for travelers). So, what should you do in such situations?

What Should You Do?

If you are unable to pray in the proper manner, pray in whatever way is possible at the appropriate prayer time to show respect for it. This may mean praying while seated or without facing the correct qibla direction. Once you reach your destination, you should perform these prayers again properly as qada (missed) prayers.

Facing the Qibla in a Moving Train

In a moving train, the direction you are facing keeps changing. If you cannot align yourself with the qibla, pray in any direction that is feasible. Later, when you reach your destination, you should repeat these prayers correctly.

Praying When You Can’t Stand

If standing in the walkway or any other part of the train is not possible or practical, you are allowed to pray while seated in your seat. Focus on doing your best given the situation, and Allah is Most Merciful and Understanding of our circumstances.
