Building a phone “from scratch” — kits, modules & factory reality
Smartphone workbook — software, build context, repair, troubleshooting, and step-by-step fixes next to the video.
Reality check. Consumer phones use custom SoCs, RF, and factory-only calibration. “From scratch” at home means kits (e.g. module + SBC + screen + battery), maker projects, or assembling repairable modules — not fabricating silicon in a garage.
What you can actually build
- Modular / kit routes: single-board computers with cellular HAT/modem, touch display, battery pack, and case — great for learning the stack: power → modem → application processor → UI.
- Right-to-repair friendly designs: some brands emphasize removable parts; study schematics and connector types before buying modules.
Factory path (what the video usually shows)
- PCB assembly (SMT), shielding, camera calibration, battery adhesive, RF test, burn-in — useful to recognize subsystems when you repair.
