What you need
- Crucible rated for gold (graphite / silica — match your process).
- Heat: torch with correct fuel/oxygen mix, or electric furnace for repeat melts.
- Flux / cover: borax or product-specific flux to reduce oxidation and help coalescence.
- Ingot mold or pour path (pre-warmed molds reduce splatter risk).
- PPE: face shield, heat gloves, natural fiber clothing, fire extinguisher, fume control.
Procedure (high level)
- Weigh and clean charge; plan alloy if mixing (know karat math).
- Preheat crucible gently; add flux as your procedure requires.
- Bring to fluid melt; skim dross if needed (trained technique).
- Pour smoothly into mold; avoid water near melt.
- Quench and clean only per safe practice — never quench hot glass or unknown containers.
